I re-watched the new JJ Abrams Star Trek film recently for the 2nd time and was not as happy with it as I was the first time I saw it [my IMDB review is here scroll down to bottom of page] ... 
which got me thinking about making a list of the best Star Trek - in all its forms. Now Star Trek was the first television I ever remember seeing. I was 3 when it first hit the airwaves and I am a purist for the original series. I remember I thought Spock was cool before I knew what cool was. And Kirk was dynamism personified. What made the show great, and a classic for the ages are the moral core to every strong storyline, the bold and vivid production design and colors, the gr
eat sound effects, the creative and progressive ideas about a potential future and how it would look and feel, the thoughtfulness of these archetypal characters, and the strength of the relationships among the crew of the USS Enterprise. Every iteration since the original has been a step down (or several).So here is the list of the best:

4. "Battlestar Galactica," Syfy. The final 10 episodes of this final season were outstanding - both action-packed, emotionally powerful and surprising. Any time you get a sci-fi series of this stature, you're going to have diehard genre fans unhappy with the ending. But for everybody else, "Battlestar Galactica" was the series that lured in viewers who didn't even like science fiction. That's a testament to its storytelling, acting and writing. It leaves a void.

Hey radii...
I saw part 2 of the Caprica pilot via Comcast On Demand last night and boy was I surprised.
The thing kept my interest up as it had BSG production values and continuity while also provided more of a backstory and links to the future (past) BSG series.
Having hi-quality familiar actors (Brits/Canuks/Aussies) along with damn good US artists make for a higher class presentation of what could be merely soap opera themes.
Part One was not available so I was thrown into the second part cold, yet my mind filled in the blanks and the story was sold - strongly. The strong cut-the-fat editing helps as well as the time allotted (which made the new Prisoner a chore for me to watch.)
The thing that was so well done IMHO was when Adama's daughter was brought back and had her innate sense of flesh-and-blood humanity, feeling that she shouldn't be here, that something was so very wrong with her mind capture and electronic reconstitution.
Well done it was.
Even the original series funky CYLON centurion had a detectable personality (remarkable!) presented ever so effectively when first activated with the new chip and fresh daughter database (the very first CYLON download).
Now, if the One God religion subplot doesn’t go off the deep end, and we have no miracles, vanishings, or pigeon allegories, I will find myself hooked into the new series…but I won’t keep my hopes up too much lest I be disappointed…
Ok, they finally put up Caprica pilot part one up on COMCAST and it was a perfect fit to part two.
I change nothing in my assessment above save the Adam(a) thug ala Russian mob subplot which will set up the future CYLON criticism that humans are murdering corrupt scum.
It IS kind of interesting to watch and try to pick out human actions and motives that the CYLONS will use in the future as justification to eradicate mankind.
I rate it a strong 7 out of 10 for now...
Wonder if they will work out the angel angle this early on...will wait and see...
By the by, does anyone know the firm date for THE PLAN to be shown?
I thought it was supposed to be before CAPRICA was aired and can't seem to fine the dates online.

January 22 is the air date for The Plan, I believe ... I liked the sleek look - sort reminded me of Baltar's pad, but, alas, I just didn't get into it. Hate to be a nattering nabob of negativity but I doubt it will last more than 1 season or even a whole season (unless they get that elusive female demographic they seek)
